What to Look for in a High Quality Preschool

With many children starting school at earlier ages, it is imperative their first experience with school is positive and builds a strong foundation for a love of learning and exploration. Early childhood education experts at the American Institutes for Research emphasize the importance of the quality of education as a top priority.  When touring preschools for your child, pay attention to the following aspects:

Teacher backgrounds

Early childhood educators need to relate well to young children and they must know how to embed play with learning because young children change developmentally at a rapid pace.  Our program is based on developmental milestones so that expectations are within the scope of the developmental readiness of our students.  Our teachers are degreed and certified early childhood educators with an average of more than 10 years of teaching experience.  This training and experience insure that the teachers provide developmentally appropriate and active learning opportunities to help each child discover their potential. 

Curriculum

Our comprehensive curriculum covers the Five Domains of School Readiness as defined by the U.S. Department of Education:

  • Language and Literacy Development
  • Cognition and General Knowledge (including early Mathematics and Scientific Development)
  • Approaches toward Learning
  • Physical Well-being and Motor Development
  • Social and Emotional Development

Our curriculum is grounded in hands-on experiences and play-based activities giving students a sense of wonder and curiosity while helping them develop academically, socially, emotionally and physically.  Play provides an incredible source of learning for children at this age so our curriculum includes learning centers and activities focused on reading and math readiness skills. Our preschool program is also theme-based and these themes are incorporated into all subject areas including science, language arts, social studies, Bible, music, art, Spanish, computer education and physical education.

How does the program build a community between parents?

We recognize that parents are a child’s first and most important teacher.  Therefore, we offer many opportunities for our families to participate in the education of their children.  These activities include classroom parties, family movie night, Fall and Spring socials and many special-themed classroom activities and adventure.  At Crown of Life Lutheran School we seek to build a community of parents and teachers who together as partners to educate our students.  We strive to meet the individual needs of children and their families in a nurturing, loving, and faith-filled environment where students grow in self-confidence, develop friendships, and learn about the world around them.
